I started as a renewable energy engineer. Then I got lost in the jungles of Indonesia, met a shaman named Aman Paksa, and spent the next 15 years making a film about what happens when the modern world reaches one of the last traditional cultures on earth. Along the way I learned Indonesian and Mentawaian, survived a health crisis that forced me to relearn how to walk and talk, and came back to finish the film anyway.
That film became Newtopia. The experience of returning to Norway — and discovering how completely social media and digital culture had transformed everything while I was gone — became the thread that connects everything I've made since.
